Well, it seems like it's time for YouTube Originals, which has been delighting its users for years with different content, to cut back on most of the material produced on the platform. YouTube Originals produced original content such as scripted series, music videos, programs, and various educational videos.

Company Shifts Focus

We first saw YouTube Originals in 2016, and it was created under the direction of Suzanne Daniels. These original shows and other content began to gain massive popularity due to such famous influencers as PewDiePie with his comedy-thriller series 'Scare PewDiePie.' As of 2017, YouTube has gained about 250 million views of subscribed users in the first season of the originals.

Since then, the company has shifted its focus to ad-supported content featuring celebrities such as Katy Perry, Kevin Hart, and many others. The nice part is that users can access such content without a paid subscription. But, as the company said, their priorities are changing, and investments could have a bigger impact on other projects. For example, the YouTube Kids Fund, a Live Shopping program, or the Black Voices Fund launched in 2020, which provided about $100 million to expand black creators on the platform.

We Will Still See New YouTube Originals

However, the company has stated that it will continue contracts and other commitments with shows that are still running. Last year we saw new announcements of the original programs, among which there are series starring Alicia Keys, Will Smith, and others. According to YouTube's statement, the platform will honor its commitment and contact the creators shortly.

In addition, Daniels announced her departure from the company. She will leave the company in March, which could also contribute to the reduction of YouTube Originals. What do you think about this YouTube decision? Feel free to leave your comments and share the article.
