YouTube will provide video transcription to the owners of its app on Android. While the feature is not available for everyone yet, YouTube plans to release it soon. Transcription is much appreciated among users who use it to find specific pieces of video.

There are tons of videos on YouTube of very different lengths. Yet, during the last years, YouTubers have increased the average time of clips. The 10 minutes video became a rare event on YouTube. Most videos that are considered short are 30 minutes long, at least. However, the major amount of content is 1 hour long. Considering the length of each video, it is almost impossible to find the moment you liked in it and want to re-watch again. It is getting hard to find a quote you want to save or use. Transcription helps to find the content you were looking for. YouTube is working hard to bring this option to your mobile phone as well.

For now, you need to go to the desktop version of YouTube anytime you want to find anything. The transcription feature is available there. Open it and you will be able to find the right place without scrolling through the whole material. All you need to do is push the button “Show Transcript.”It is located in the description of the video, below it.

The new feature on Android works the same as on the desktop version. Yet, it was designed friendly to mobile UI. You may scroll the script on the phone and read the transcript or just pick the right time code and you will find the piece of text you need. For now, it is not as useful as the desktop version, since there are no similar search opportunities as on your laptop. Yet, you may start with something.

Are you excited about the upcoming feature? Have you ever used transcription to find something on YouTube? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
