The latest beta version of WhatsApp has revealed that the messenger is testing a new feature that will show the estimated time of arrival (ETA) to users when they are sharing files with other users. The feature is already available in betas for all platforms, including iOS, Android, and Web. More details are below.

Pretty Useful

As usual, the new feature was first spotted by the popular beta tracker WABetinfo. The tracker reports that the ETA feature popped up in WhatsApp beta 2.22.8.11 for Android, 2.2209.3 on desktops for Web, and 22.8.0.74 for iOS. The Web version of the app received the feature for testing one month before mobile platforms. According to the latest screenshots, the ETA tracker will be viewed under the file name and will show the uploading status in both percentage and time left.

The new feature is going to be handy for many users, who need to share large files on the messenger on a daily basis. Currently, the largest file you can share must not exceed 16MB, regardless of the platform you are using. However, the platform promises to expand the capacity to 2GB to reduce competition with Telegram which has been allowing 2GB shares for 2 years already. The limit is already expanded for a group of testers in Argentina, which means that we are receiving it this year for sure.

As for the new tools, they include 2 new pencil thickness options. Now they are available at the bottom along with the relocated blur tool. More drawing tools are expected to reach beta soon.

More to Come

We don’t know the release date for the new features, but the availability in the beta means that they are almost ready. We will probably get the updates along with upcoming beta versions that will tease even more new features. Do you like the way WhatsApp upgrades its messenger? What else would you like to see? Tell us about it below and share the news with other users.
