The previous year was marked for Meta and Instagram in particular by global proceedings and speeches in the Senate regarding the negative impact of social networks on users. Finally, the developers have rolled out a new feature that will make using Instagram safer for mental health. Now you can customize the Feed to your taste, and the algorithms will not interfere with it.

You have two additional options. You can see posts from all the accounts you follow on your Feed or select up to 50 people whose updates you want to check. Regardless of the option chosen, all information will appear in chronological order, without control from the internal algorithms of the platform as it was before.

Unfortunately, the settings you choose are not saved, and you’ll have to change your feed display every time you sign in to your account. It’s not very convenient, is it? Probably, the developers hope that most users will still understand that a selection based on the publications they like is a much more convenient option. According to the company representatives, when Instagram began to expand, and more new users appeared, many people missed up to 70% of the information they were interested in. That is why algorithms were introduced. That is, ranking in itself is not a bad thing.

But now you have a choice, and it is what the authorities have been demanding for a long time. Since you can decide how your Feed is formed, senators will not be able to say that algorithms destroy someone’s mental health. By the way, a similar option has already been implemented on Facebook. And as statistics show, people do not use it very often.

Do you follow the Meta litigation? Do you agree with senators’ statements that algorithms are bad for users, especially teenagers?
